The contribution deals with the presence of the Campanian component in Neapolis, which is redimensioned by Strabo. The Italic component was not secondary nor was it immediately absorbed and obliterated, but remained evident for a certain period of time, contributing to the formation of a local identity. The redimensioning operated by Strabo appears to be a rewriting operation aimed at confirming an image that the city had wanted to give of itself, obliterating those “barbaric” traits that had characterised it in the past.
