Internet gaming disorder (IGD) represents a new form of addiction. Those suffering from IGD are compelled to make restricted choices in order to satisfy an allegedly overpowering desire, much like those with substance use disorders (SUD). Both groups share similar brain alterations and cognitive impairments and should therefore receive the same legal treatment. The issue of culpability focuses on whether changes in autonomous control over one’s actions due to gaming, as in drug addiction, result in impaired impulse control, and whether individuals in this state can be held legally responsible if they commit a crime.

Abstract
Internet gaming disorder (IGD) represents a new form of addiction. Those suffering from IGD are compelled to make restricted choices in order to satisfy an allegedly overpowering desire, much like those with substance use disorders (SUD). Both groups share similar brain alterations and cognitive impairments and should therefore receive the same legal treatment. The issue of culpability focuses on whether changes in autonomous control over one’s actions due to gaming, as in drug addiction, result in impaired impulse control, and whether individuals in this state can be held legally responsible if they commit a crime.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
