In the essay, starting from the recognition of the importance of social and cultural dimensions of nutrition, after having made a nod on some anthropological perspectives on food having underlined the impact, in the second half of the Twentieth Century, of the industrial development, the author focuses, through the studies of Ancel and Margaret Keys started in Campania in the 1950s, on the “discovery” of the Mediterranean Diet, healthy lifestyle, later declared as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2010 and on the subsequent debate.
