In the present paper a general model of plasma instabilities in high-power, e-beam sustained CO" laser amplifiers is presented togheter with a detailed discussions of some experimental cases. The above model has been used to test the degree of thermal and ionic instability of an EDCL device using four component gas mixtures. The stabilizing effect of the laser beam intensity has been assessed, thus finding a dramatic reduction of the growth rate of thermal instabilities.

Abstract
In the present paper a general model of plasma instabilities in high-power, e-beam sustained CO" laser amplifiers is presented togheter with a detailed discussions of some experimental cases. The above model has been used to test the degree of thermal and ionic instability of an EDCL device using four component gas mixtures. The stabilizing effect of the laser beam intensity has been assessed, thus finding a dramatic reduction of the growth rate of thermal instabilities.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
