This paper examines the behavior of inclined piles, subjected to axial and lateral loads and bending moments in the vertical plane containing pile axis. The stress level considered is such that both the pile and the surrounding soil are far from failure conditions; the soil is treated as a homogeneous, isotropic, elastic half space. It is concluded that the groups of inclined piles are very effective when horizontal forces and bending moments are acting; on the contrary, they are rather ineffective against vertical loads.
