The authors argue that a dedicated parallel computer system can represent an effective and flexible approach to the problem of list mode acquisition and reconstruction of digital radiographic images obtained with a double-sided silicon microstrip detector. A transputer-based implementation of a parallel system for the data acquisition and image reconstruction from a silicon crystal with 200-μm read-out pitch is presented. A prototype of the system connected to a detector with a 10 mm2 sensitive area is under development.
