Abstract

The reconstruction of the parthenopean metropolitan identity may restart from the extraordinary natural and cultural heritage which is preserved within territorial parks which, into the renewed dimension of the city, reveals new urban featured leanings which also have an organising role. This utopian horizon of a Napoli of the future leads to Cuma: place of the origins. The borders of the archaeological park within the regional park ‘Campi Flegrei’ is actually invisible in reality. Nowadays, Cuma is one of the ordinary landscapes which are involved into a spread process of decentralization and new phenomena related to multiculturalism and migrations. Planning experimentations aim to make active and influencing, in the contemporary landscape, the symbolic, ancient and cotemporary range of the original polis, the conflictual relation between the Greek and the Roman Cuma. ‘Dall’Elefante alla Tartaruga’, ‘Agorà e perimetrazione geografica della Cuma greca’, ‘ Ricomporre le mura di Cuma’, ‘ Nuovo Museo diffuse sul fronte romano’, ‘La Chora di Cuma. 4 stazioni + 4 porte’ are the titles which syntesize different stages and interpretative perspectives related to researches and studies which have been carried out thanks to the Faculty of Architecture of the Univeristà Federico II di Napoli through laboratories, thesis, workshops and international masters joined to the precious scientific support of the Soprintendenza archeologica. As key of interpretation, the relation between microtopography and the landscape of the extraordinary and changeable geographical matrix of the Phlegran site with its myths and meanings lead to a hypothesis which grasp and verify the form and the multicultural and maritime spirit of the Greek polis. They actualize the conflictual relations which are generated from the transformation of the ancient urban space, first of all , the changing of the polis caused by the infrastructural Roman city. Furthermore, they influence different ideas of the living and the world through a sequence of several architectonical ‘bases’ which discover and tell a new reconstruction of the history of the ‘ Greek-Roman Cuma’ of the archaeological site and the real broadening of the time in which, several events of an ancient time once took place. These ,then ,make explicit and concrete the value of Cuma as original centre and symbolical reference to the parthenopean metropolis.
