Interferon gamma (IFNG) is a pro-inflammatory cytokine produced mostly by T-lymphocytes during immune response to bacterial infections like bovine tuberculosis (bTB). Outcome of bTB infection is influenced by host genetic background, and impaired IFNG expression is often associated with poor prognosis for tuberculosis infection. Thus, in this study we evaluated the effects of IFNG polymorphisms on resistance/susceptibility to bTB in Mediterranean water buffalo (Bubalus bubalis).

Abstract

Outcome of bTB infection is influenced by host genetic background, and impaired IFNG expression is often associated with poor prognosis for tuberculosis infection. Thus, in this study we evaluated the effects of IFNG polymorphisms on resistance/susceptibility to bTB in Mediterranean water buffalo (Bubalus bubalis).
