The Prime Minister's Office in Italy (1948-2016)

Studies on the personalization and presidentialisation of politics in Italy have reached interesting goals, especially in the last fifteen years. Unfortunately, research on the organizational transformations of the Prime Minister’s office did not follow. Today there are no updates on the reforms implemented by the past Presidenti del Consiglio thus making it impossible to study the process of reinforcing the executive and the Prime Minister’s role. Thirty years after the first law on the Presidency of Council it can in fact say that - in the same Constitution - the prime ministers were able to cope with their government's handling, thanks to this increase of organizational resources. They, however, as we saw with the Renzi government, can help, not replace, political power.
