The discovery of the Porta Ercolano and the Insula Occidentalis opens up new scenarios in the archaeological exploration of Pompeii. This urban sector, located along the road and the slope of the hill, offers visitors their first view of the village, which is consolidated in descriptions and guides, especially of the nineteenth century. This essay attempts to recover, through these particular observations, the perception of the insula area, following its evolution over time.
