This contribution presents several new readings and a new interpretation of PHerc. 1044, frr. 2, 49 and 3 Gallo (Vita Philonidis). These fragments were long considered unconnected because an Oxonian facsimile represented them misleadingly, and they have been only recently joined by Assante. A new analysis of this text led me to diverge from the interpretation given by the previous editors and to identify a strongly Epicurean context in which the author of the Vita intentionally frames Philonides of Laodiceia.
