The essay focuses on two short geo-ethnographic digressions dedicated by the humanist Giovanni Pontano to the mythical people of the Cimmerii in the orthographic-grammatical context of his treatise De aspiratione and in the historiographic context of his work De bello Neapolitano. The analysis of these digressions allows us to get an idea of how the humanist used his lexicographic and erudite sources to enrich his works with antiquarian contents, but also allows us to consider that the circulation of ancient classics and technical texts (grammar, comments, erudite writings), as well as translations from Greek had a remarkable impact on humanistic literary production.

Abstract
The essay focuses on two short geo-ethnographic digressions dedicated by the humanist Giovanni Pontano to the mythical people of the Cimmerii in the orthographic-grammatical context of his treatise De aspiratione and in the historiographic context of his work De bello Neapolitano. The analysis of these digressions allows us to get an idea of how the humanist used his lexicographic and erudite sources to enrich his works with antiquarian contents, but also allows us to consider that the circulation of ancient classics and technical texts (grammar, comments, erudite writings), as well as translations from Greek had a remarkable impact on humanistic literary production.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
