The aim of this paper is to attract the attention on the inside of the Symposium, through the study of word agalma in Plato and in some Neoplatonic texts. In order to understand if Plato presents Socrates’ logoi as speechs/agalmata, i.e. speech which might lead to the finding of Self by degrees, it will be shown how the language of agalmata outlines the route of recognition of the divine through the visual power of the soul and the likeness between the divine in us and the Divine itself.

Abstract
The aim of this paper is to attract the attention on the inside of the Symposium, through the study of word agalma in Plato and in some Neoplatonic texts. In order to understand if Plato presents Socrates’ logoi as speechs/agalmata, i.e. speech which might lead to the finding of Self by degrees, it will be shown how the language of agalmata outlines the route of recognition of the divine through the visual power of the soul and the likeness between the divine in us and the Divine itself.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
