CONOSCENZA E PROBLEMATICHE CONSERVATIVE DELLE STRUTTURE VOLTATE IN TERRA DI LAVORO: IL CANTIERE DELLA BASILICA MINORE DI SANTA MARIA INCALDANA A MONDRAGONE

The basilica minore of Santa Maria Incaldana is the most important place of worship of the city of Mondragone. The basilica has a complex, fragmented history, also due to the different specialists that worked during its realization, expansion and restoration. The dome is integrated in the architectural context and in the landscape of the Alto Casertano area. It is a composed vault, created by the connection of eight curved, frescoed squinches with an octagonal drum. This paper aims at analyzing the aesthetic features, the geometry and the structural arrangements of the dome, starting from the direct surveys and bibliographical researches. Furthermore, issues regarding the conservation and strategies of enhancement are highlighted.
