Stereotype logistic model: an application to the determinants of doctoral programme satisfaction in Italy

Using the stereotype logistic model, this study examines the determinants of doctoral graduate’s satisfaction with their overall doctoral programme experience in Italian uni- versities. The dataset used (Istat 2019) covers a representative sample of national and international graduates for the graduation years 2012 and 2014 including more than 80 academic institutions and 14 disciplinary areas. The detailed questionnaire allows investi- gation of various aspects of satisfaction with the doctoral experience, framed by the two broader constructs of the role of the supervisor and that of the department. Regression results show that the dominant factors are related to the support for career development beyond the doctorate and to certain aspects of the supervisor’s role. Of less importance are research facilities.
