Repubblicanesimo in un regno rinascimentale: culture e pratiche politiche a Napoli fra XV e XVI secolo

This article aims to explore the cultures related with the idealisation of the Roman republic and the practices of urban elites inspired by them in the capital of the kingdom of Naples between the 15th and early 16th Century. #rough di%erent textual sources and communication levels – from Pontano to the proposal of republica for Naples in de Jennaro’s commentary on Livy before Machiavelli’s Discorsi – the paper observes the ways in reusing ancient models in relation to the social distinction processes that transform institutions and practices of the political participation and exclusion, by arguing for the possibility, in speci!c crises, of a republican point of view maintaining obedience to the Crown.
