As a complement to the traditional learning methodologies, tutoring sys- tems allow tailoring learning activities for students according to their characteris- tics and abilities, improving the learning outcome. In this framework, the Adaptive Learning in Statistics (ALEAS) ERASMUS+ Project aims to implement an adap- tive system for advising in learning Statistics, supporting students’ learning process. This article focuses on the ALEAS assessment of students’ statistical knowledge, as an essential step to build an appropriate recommender system to provide students with suggestions based on their abilities. Results from a simulation study were used to describe the proposed approach.
