“Il cono d’ombra”. Prose and poetry in Pagliarani · The following article aims to address the issue of the poetic prose, its structure, its metrics, through the most recent theories of the genre, mostly relating to the late Italian twentieth-century. The particular instance of the Elio Pagliarani’s poem La ragazza Carla helps to define the uncertain boundaries of an experimentalism that has lately caught the critic’s attention, primarily towards a specific definition and cataloguing of its major features as rhythm, prosody and lowering of the poetic language. A theorical discours about the notions of long line and free verse poem sifts through the individual elements of a frame that is openly known as twofaced : it is both prose and poetry. Thus revealing its possible connections to the classical form of the menippean satire and its structure, which has been shown to have influenced Italian new-vanguardist poetry towards a break of the literary canon, meaning the change of already preset genres and kinds.
