Measurement of exhaled nitric oxide is a recognized non invasive marker of airway inflammation with implications in the management of bronchial asthma. However there is a growing interest in the utilization of a combinate measurement of exhaled NO from the upper and lower airways to further characterize some important chronic inflammatory processes occurring in Rhinosinusitis, Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia, COPD. In this concise review, after a brief discussion of the NO pathophysiology in the respiratory tract the main applications of nasal and oral exhaled NO will be presented with the progress in the field of portable NO analyzer.

Abstract
Measurement of exhaled nitric oxide is a recognized non invasive marker of airway inflammation with implications in the management of bronchial asthma. However there is a growing interest in the utilization of a combinate measurement of exhaled NO from the upper and lower airways to further characterize some important chronic inflammatory processes occurring in Rhinosinusitis, Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia, COPD. In this concise review, after a brief discussion of the NO pathophysiology in the respiratory tract the main applications of nasal and oral exhaled NO will be presented with the progress in the field of portable NO analyzer.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
