Through a mixed-method approach, this article examines all exhibitions (129) held by the National Archaeological Museum of Naples between 2016 and 2022 to assess the economic performance of co-production. In-depth interviewing of key informants has integrated the quantitative data on collaborative exhibition-making. Findings show increased museum attractiveness, content innovation, and self-funding. As partnering works as an inclusive capacity-building mechanism, collaborations may either increase museum financial autonomy or put self-funding under strain. Findings resonate with governance and regional science scholars focusing on museum networks and with policymakers and stakeholders interested in exhibition co-production, funding, and technology innovation.

Abstract
Through a mixed-method approach, this article examines all exhibitions (129) held by the National Archaeological Museum of Naples between 2016 and 2022 to assess the economic performance of co-production. In-depth interviewing of key informants has integrated the quantitative data on collaborative exhibition-making. Findings show increased museum attractiveness, content innovation, and self-funding. As partnering works as an inclusive capacity-building mechanism, collaborations may either increase museum financial autonomy or put self-funding under strain. Findings resonate with governance and regional science scholars focusing on museum networks and with policymakers and stakeholders interested in exhibition co-production, funding, and technology innovation.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
