Starting from the premise that risk is inherent to self-writing, the article examines the autofotobiographical works of three female writers – Claude Cahun (Aveux non avoués), Annie Ernaux ( L’Usage de la photo), and Chantal Akerman (Ma Mère rit) – to inquire into how the integration of images into the text involves a risk linked both to artistic experimentation and to an exposure of the intimate that challenges moral norms.

Abstract

Starting from the premise that risk is inherent to self-writing, the article examines the autofotobiographical works of three female writers – Claude Cahun (Aveux non avoués), Annie Ernaux ( L’Usage de la photo), and Chantal Akerman (Ma Mère rit) – to inquire into how the integration of images into the text involves a risk linked both to artistic experimentation and to an exposure of the intimate that challenges moral norms.
