In today's context no common urban planning strategy, neither national nor international, addresses the need to shield the soil in the pivotal role as habitat controlling the functions of the urban ecosystem. A best practice is the method currently being conducted in the interdisciplinary research project as part of the scientific collaboration agreement between the Architecture Department and CDP Immobiliare. The research project aims to reuse a large part of demolition wastes to implement the transformations of the area. The large-scale consumption of land linked to the urban fabric leads to a dramatic loss of biodiversity. Therefore it is urgent to develop an urban land management system driven by suitable decision support tools. The new system would result useful for developing scenarios and assessments of different environmental impacts caused by the diverse style of intervention implemented in the project planning.
