In recent years, the field of Artificial Intelligence has witnessed significant progress in the area of Generative AI and, in particular, in the development of language generation models, such as the Generative Pre-trained Transformer (GPT) developed by OpenAI, which has revolutionised the field of natural language processing. Educational research has an obligation to provide realistic working hypotheses and models that are congruent with the very purpose of education and that can be concretely used within it to improve its effectiveness, safety and accountability. It is therefore essential to analyse the issue in all its dimensions and to identify the potential and the limits of this new and possible educational alliance.
