Our research will show how the study of the approaches developed in different cultural contexts may be important to reflect on our teaching practice and to design new teaching experiments. In particular we studied the graphical representations used to describe and solve the additive problems in primary school in Russia and China. In this article we show the idea of cultural transposition that will be illustrated by means the brief description of two teaching experiments carried out in Italy in grade 2 and 5.
