Casamicciola: un soggiorno privilegiato nel secolo della borghesia

Casamicciola is known for the richness of its thermal sites, and for the many famous people who had frequented the island from the early Eighteenth century. In the mid-Nineteenth century it was full of hotels, but few studies took a closer look to the touristic places present in the island, outside the well-known thermal spas. An important event, not investigated enough yet, is the presence of Domenico Barbaja, entrepreneur of the Royal Neapolitan Theatres; he bought a villa in Casamicciola, a meeting place for great artists such as Colbran and Rossini. The lucky tourist season was suddenly interrupted by the earthquake in the summer of 1883, that irrevocably modified its layout. The ancient Piazza Bagni, known for the famous spa, became a place out of the way, way, losing its central role in the touristic flows of the Nineteenth century.
