The paper focuses on the evolution of the role of fiscal and monetary policy in the economic debate. Starting by this analysis, recent changes in economic policy are analyzed in the perspective of recent economic crisis and the position of Italian economy is evaluated in the macroeconomic European scenario. Many questions on the efficiency and the future role of economic policies emerge.

Abstract
