Abstract
In Alex. 1128-1140, Lycophron describes a ritual celebrated at the temple of Cassandra in Daunia. Here the maidens who intend to avoid marriage go with black dress, face tinged with magical herbs and stick in hand to embrace the statue of the goddess, obtaining «a very powerful defense against the wedding». The aim of this essay is to propose a ‘relational’ analysis of the ritual, considering it as the staging of a network of relationships that finds its fulcrum in the divine statue and is carried out through the use of symbols closely related, in producing meaning, to a specific referential context.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
