The relationship between the shape of public spaces and the uses of citizens has attracted the interest of many scholars since the Thirties of the last century. The safety of public space is not only linked to the prevention of situational crimes, such as thefts and aggressions, but also assumes importance for the economy of the urban structure and for its real estate value, encouraging the drafting of rules and operational principles aimed at designing safe neighbourhoods for users. The paper proposes a reflection on the need to optimize time and resources for the development of urban communities: this could favour inclusive and multidisciplinary approaches, influencing the operational and decision-making process to resolve the security issues of the contemporary city.

Abstract
The relationship between the shape of public spaces and the uses of citizens has attracted the interest of many scholars since the Thirties of the last century. The safety of public space is not only linked to the prevention of situational crimes, such as thefts and aggressions, but also assumes importance for the economy of the urban structure and for its real estate value, encouraging the drafting of rules and operational principles aimed at designing safe neighbourhoods for users. The paper proposes a reflection on the need to optimize time and resources for the development of urban communities: this could favour inclusive and multidisciplinary approaches, influencing the operational and decision-making process to resolve the security issues of the contemporary city.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
