This article proposes a reconstruction of the complex relationship between Nietzsche and Wagner to bring out the importance that the German composer played in the development of Nietzschean thought. The hope that the young Nietzsche cultured towards Wagner, as an artist of the rebirth of Dionysian art, was soon disregarded by contributing to the construction of one of the sharpest and most sagacious analyses of art and culture of the German and European bourgeois world.
