-CN is the most abundant casein fraction in the goat milk and its composition is heterogeneous for the presence of almost six phosphorylation degree (Chianese et al. 1993). The most abundant components are -CN 6P and -CN 5P. This casein fraction as well as the goat s1-CN, was affected by both qualitative and quantitative genetic polymorphism since it was expressed by strong (~6 g/L ) and null alleles (protein lacking). In this work the occurrence of a new genetic variant of goat -CN was reported. The samples from a population of Campania region were analysed by means of immuno-electrophoretic technique and LC/ESI/MS analysis. The results achieved by PAGE at alkaline pH and UTLIEF analysis showed the new variant had the lowest mobility towards the anode by PAGE at alkaline pH and an highest pI value by UTLIEF respect to the reference variant. By means of LC/ESI/MS the molecular mass difference between them was M = 47Da. Working is in progress to determine the aminoacid substitution.
